TRAVELS

What a messy month January was. After the Zumiez event I bruised a rib the next day in the park, something that has taken a few weeks to heal. I did it on the middle jump at Mammoth, mid Jauary, on a hard, big, park jump. Getting hurt on park jumps makes me so pissed. It happens often and especially earlier in the season there’s really no point. Sessioning an 80 foot park jump when it’s hard as rock is fun but it’s not like you’re going to do anything that will actually make a video part.

Right now I’m on a flight back from Germany. Blaise and I flew over there for the ISPO tradeshow a day after being in Vegas for SIA. So in the last 10 days I’ve been either traveling to or from a trade show, hanging out at a trade show booth or getting plastered at some industry party. In the case of yesterday afternoon it was getting plastered at an industry party in a trade show booth before traveling home, three in one! This little non-snowboarding stint has been good for both the bruised rib and promoting Artec, something that I really believe in. Our booths looked sick and I think people are feeling what we’re doing. Blaise is one of my favorite traveling partners and we had some fun times as usual over the last week and a half.

Blaise Rosenthal is a truly interesting character. The highlight of the Blaise Rosenthal experience, which from now on is what I will call traveling with Blaise, was the addition of a pair of Air Blaster Glacier Glasses. Blaise made the guys at Air Blaster a sandwich and they hooked em up with some shades that he’d been eyeing up since Vegas. It wasn’t just the retro look of the glasses that was so special, it was what happened to Blaise once he put them on. Like a thief robbing a bank, Blaise would don the shades and turn into a shit talking, techno dancing, beer swilling bandit, all to fall back to normal after taking them off. I don’t know which guy I like better but I’ve always been told two is better than one and I guess it goes the same for Blaise Rosenthal.
